In the effort to promote acquisition, processing, and presentation of information; technology has taken a front seat at Addams.
One new addition to the Addams technology arsenal is a wireless thirty Ibook mobile access area. This access area is equipped with a cart, printer, wireless hub, and thirty brand new Ibooks. All teachers will be trained in Ibook usage allowing for the new equipment to be used across the curriculum.
Unlike the elementary counterparts, our Ibooks are for in-school usage only. And what usage they are getting; before training was completed the new access area was already booked solid for five weeks!
Quiz 6 is another
new “Jeopardy-like” device that allows up to six groups to remotely buzz in
answers to questions displayed on a TV screen. It has become a favorite also.
Mrs. Verstat's’s math
classes used the iBooks to explore graphing. In particular, they used the
National Library of Virtual Manipultives, an interactive math site, to review
Box Plots which they had just covered. Then, rather than “show” the kids how
to create a Scatterplot, they worked through an activity that allowed them to
“discover” the way Scatterplots display data. We knew the lesson was a
success when one of the students said, “Hey, the line is always stays in the
middle of the points!”
